Love is in the air this month and there are so many ways to spread the joy! Love starts from within and we encourage you to find ways to reconnect with yourself so you can share with others.

With shorter days and cold temperatures, it’s easy to lose your zest! How about a few of these ideas to re-boost your energy.

Get Outside – Taking a walk through nature is proven to decrease stress and increase happiness. Many consider it a form of meditation. Fresh air boosts your immune system and the scenery will keep you grounded. Find a walking buddy and get out at lunch – you’ll see your mood and productivity go up!

Try the Healing Therapy of Touch – Massage is well known to help relieve stress and anxiety that can wreak havoc on your body and cause issues like insomnia. Adding Reiki to your treatment can also help to dissolve energy blocks and promote a natural balance between mind, body and spirit.

Try Something New – Learning a new skill, sport, language or starting a new hobby can awaken creativity and new perspectives. Start with something that is on your bucket list or plays to your passion. You’ll feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment and pride.

Meditate – Consider a cleanse for your mind with daily or weekly meditation. There are plenty of guided classes in the city or try an app on your phone. The key is to set aside time to let your mind wander and be still.

staying-healthy-this-winter-christina 700The transition into Winter brings change — a change in weather, routine, and often our health (hello, flu season). But this gives us a chance to improve our well being, increase energy and protect ourselves against colds and flu that inevitably circulate. Here are some tips on staying healthy this winter:

1. Eat local, in season produce: take advantage of the bounty that your local farmers markets have to offer! Squash, pumpkin, apples, cranberries all offer loads of nutrients and can be easily incorporated into easy fall and winter recipes.

2. Stay hydrated! It's easy in summer to guzzle down water from the warm summer temperatures and a little harder to remember once it cools down. Keeping your body hydrated is the easiest way to increase energy and vibrancy, as well as helping with bodily functions and improving digestion.

3. Boost your immune system. Limit sugar intake, stay hydrated, and eat colourful fruits and veggies for vitamins and minerals. Peppers, kale and sprouts all have high amounts of Vitamin C and will keep that immunity high!

Red-Lentil-and-Squash-Curry-stew 700


  • 1 tsp Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp good quality curry powder (or more to taste)
  • 1 carton broth (4 cups) I used low-sodium
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 3 cups cooked butternut squash
  • 1 cup greens of choice
  • Fresh grated ginger, to taste (optional)
  • Kosher salt & black pepper, to taste (I used about 1/2 tsp salt)


1. In a large pot, add EVOO and chopped onion and minced garlic. Saute for about 5 minutes over low-medium heat.

2. Stir in curry powder and cook another couple minutes. Add broth and lentils and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.

3. Stir in cooked butternut squash and greens of choice. Cook over medium heat for about 5-8 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and add some freshly grated ginger to taste.
